Description

Lemon jam is a vibrant and zesty spread, perfect for adding a burst of citrus flavor to your breakfast or desserts. It’s simple to make and requires only a few ingredients.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 4 large lemons
  • 2 cups (400 g) sugar
  • 1 cup (240 ml) water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

Preparation Method

1. Prepare Lemons

  • Wash Lemons: Wash lemons thoroughly to remove any dirt or wax.
  • Peel Lemons: Peel the lemons, removing as much white pith as possible to prevent bitterness. Thinly slice the lemon peel and set aside.
  • Chop Pulp: Remove seeds and finely chop the lemon pulp.

2. Cook Jam

  • Combine Ingredients: In a large pot, combine lemon peel, pulp, water, and sugar.
  • Boil and Simmer: Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens. Add vanilla extract if using, and stir well.

3. Store Jam

  • Sterilize Jars: Ensure your jars are sterilized by boiling them in water for 10 minutes or using a hot dishwasher cycle.
  • Pour into Jars: Pour hot jam into sterilized jars and seal tightly. Let cool to room temperature before storing in the refrigerator.

Cooling and Serving

  • Cooling: Allow the jam to cool completely before serving to let the flavors meld.
  • Serving: Enjoy the lemon jam on toast, scones, or as a filling for pastries.
