Description
Red velvet truffles are rich, creamy bites made from crumbled red velvet cake mixed with cream cheese frosting and coated in smooth chocolate. Perfect for parties, gifting, or a decadent treat, these no-bake delights are as beautiful as they are delicious.
Ingredients
- 1 box red velvet cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box for preparation)
- ½ cup (120 g) cream cheese frosting (store-bought or homemade)
- 12 oz (340 g) white or semi-sweet chocolate chips (for coating)
- Optional: sprinkles or red sugar for decoration
Instructions
- Bake the Cake: Prepare the red velvet cake according to package instructions. Let the cake cool completely.
- Crumble and Mix: Crumble the cooled cake into a large bowl. Add the cream cheese frosting and mix until the mixture holds together like a dough.
- Roll the Truffles: Roll the mixture into 1-inch balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Freeze for 20–30 minutes to firm up.
- Melt the Chocolate: Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl, microwaving in 30-second intervals and stirring until smooth.
- Coat the Truffles: Use a fork to dip each truffle into the melted chocolate, ensuring it’s fully coated. Let the excess chocolate drip off before placing the truffle back on the parchment-lined sheet.
- Decorate: Immediately sprinkle with sprinkles or red sugar before the chocolate sets.
- Set the Truffles: Refrigerate the coated truffles until the chocolate is firm, about 15–20 minutes.
Notes
- If the truffle mixture feels too dry, add more frosting 1 tablespoon at a time until it holds together.
- Ensure the chocolate is completely melted and smooth for easy coating.
- For a deeper flavor, substitute dark chocolate chips for the coating.
- Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week or freeze for longer storage.
