Halloween is just around the corner, and it’s the perfect time to get into the spirit of all things eerie and fun. One way to do that is by creating these whimsically wicked “Witch’s Fingers.” This delightfully spooky treat is not only a fantastic addition to your Halloween celebrations but is also surprisingly easy to make.

Ingredients:

Just under 2.5 cups of all-purpose flour (about 370g)
200g of real butter (1 standard stick)
Approximately 3/5 cup of powdered sugar (110g)
1 slightly heaped tablespoon of cornstarch/potato starch (15g)
1 small egg or the yolk of a large egg
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1 level teaspoon of almond extract
A generous pinch of salt
About 45g of blanched or regular almonds

Instructions:

Prepare the Dough:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, powdered sugar, cornstarch, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
- Cut the cold butter into small pieces and add it to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Add the Egg and Almond Extract:
- Stir in the egg (or egg yolk) and almond extract. Knead the mixture until it forms a soft dough. If the dough is too crumbly, you can add a few drops of water to help it come together.
Shape the Witch’s Fingers:
- Take a small piece of dough and roll it into a finger-like shape, about the length of your index finger. Use your fingers to make indentations for the knuckles, and use a knife to make small lines for the wrinkles.
Add Almond “Nails”:
- Press an almond into the tip of each “finger” to resemble a fingernail.
Bake:
- Place the shaped witch’s fingers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
- Bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until they’re slightly golden.
Cool and Enjoy:
- Allow the witch’s fingers to cool on a wire rack. Once cooled, they’re ready to enjoy.
